“Beyond the limits of right and wrong.”

Janardan Jakhar (Ranbir Kapoor) is a college student who can't write a song worth hearing, and he's been told the reason is that nothing has ever hurt him. Imtiaz Ali follows him as he goes looking for that hurt, and Heer Kaul (Nargis Fakhri) is the person he finds. A. R. Rahman's score carries him toward the music he wanted, though the same heartbreak that gives him the songs puts him in danger of destroying himself.
