A small-time Philadelphia fighter and debt collector named Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) gets an impossible shot at the heavyweight championship held by Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers). His trainer Mickey Goldmill (Burgess Meredith) pushes him through brutal dawn runs while Adrian (Talia Shire), a quiet woman from his neighborhood, becomes his reason to try. The film argues that going the distance matters more than winning.
