In Mexico City's Colonia Roma, 1970, Cleo Gutiérrez (Yalitza Aparicio) works as a live-in housekeeper for Sofía (Marina de Tavira) and her family, moving through their home in black and white. The family's stability begins to fracture as Sofía's marriage unravels and the children pull in different directions. Cleo's own life hangs on the threads of a household coming apart.
