Roman J. Israel, Esq.

“All rise.”

Roman J. Israel (Denzel Washington) is a Los Angeles defense lawyer who has spent decades in the back office, writing briefs for the poor while his partner handles the courtroom and the credit. When that partner has a heart attack, Roman is pushed to the front, and Dan Gilroy follows him as George Pierce (Colin Farrell) draws him into a bigger firm. Roman's long-held values are now in conflict with what he is learning, and he has more to lose than a job.
