“It begins with a shriek...it ends with a shot!”

One evening in a Manhattan apartment, Brandon Shaw (John Dall) and Phillip Morgan (Farley Granger) strangle a classmate, then set the table for a dinner party. The guests include the dead man's father, Mr. Henry Kentley (Cedric Hardwicke), and their old housemaster Rupert Cadell (James Stewart). Hitchcock keeps the evening moving in long takes, and Phillip grows more frightened with every glass he pours.
