Fleur (Anita Mui) is a courtesan in the teahouses of 1930s Hong Kong, and what she wants is Chan Chen-Pang (Leslie Cheung), the son of a wealthy family who has fallen in love with her. Fifty years later she comes back as a ghost, still looking for him, and a young couple in the present day gets pulled into her search. Stanley Kwan shows a love that two people agreed to die for and a woman who cannot let go of it.
