Roxanne

“Roxanne dreamed of a handsome, intelligent, romantic man. C.D. Bales is two out of three—but looks aren't everything.”

C.D. Bales (Steve Martin) is the fire chief of a small Pacific Northwest town, quick with a joke and well liked, and self-conscious about his enormous nose. When Roxanne Kowalski (Daryl Hannah), a visiting astronomy student, arrives, he can't bring himself to say how he feels. Fred Schepisi follows C.D. as he feeds love letters to the shy young Chris (Rick Rossovich), and the words he gives away begin to reach someone.
