Roxanne Roxanne

“Life is a battle.”

Nobody in Queensbridge in the early 1980s can beat a fourteen-year-old girl on the mic, and the neighborhood doesn't know where she came from. Roxanne Shanté (Chanté Adams) hustles to provide for her family and fights to stay safe on streets that offer her no protection, while Cross (Mahershala Ali) enters her life. Michael Larnell shows how much a girl is asked to carry before she is old enough to put any of it down.
