In a laboratory in 1996 Japan, shot in grainy black and white, a team of scientists has just lost its latest test subject to an explosion. Shozin Fukui follows them as they go looking for a replacement, someone to keep taking the brain-altering drugs, with Shimika (Yohta Kawase) and Motomiyu (Sosuke Saito) among the staff. The camera stays close and the image stays gray, every surface wet or scratched.
