“A hero should never have to stand alone.”

Nobody on the embassy steps in Yemen can agree on what happened outside, only that a crowd of demonstrators is dead after Col. Terry Childers (Samuel L. Jackson) ordered his Marines to fire. Col. Hayes Hodges (Tommy Lee Jones), a lawyer who owes Childers his life from Vietnam, takes the case in William Friedkin's courtroom drama. The film is about who gets to say what a soldier should have done when the order cannot be taken back.
