Running Out of Time

In 1999 Hong Kong, Inspector Ho Sheung-Sang (Lau Ching-wan) is a hostage negotiator known for talking people down. Then Mr. Cheung (Andy Lau), a criminal with cancer and a grudge against the city's organized crime syndicates, challenges him to a 72-hour game of wits. Johnnie To puts Ho in over his head from the first call, and every hour that passes brings the three days closer to their end.
