Horace Vendig (Zachary Scott) has always taken what he wants, starting with a Harvard education paid for by the father of his friend Martha. Years later, Vic Lambdin (Louis Hayward) arrives at Horace's mansion party with Mallory Flagg (Diana Lynn), a woman who looks strikingly like Martha. Edgar G. Ulmer lets the two old friends circle each other, and the resentments between Horace and Vic come up with every drink they pour.
