Viktor Taransky (Al Pacino), a producer who needs a hit, loses his star when she walks off his film set mid-production. With the picture in danger, he builds a digital actress named Simone and slips her into the lead. Andrew Niccol, who wrote, produced and directed, plays the idea as a satire of how studios make and sell a star.
