Karl Verloc (Oskar Homolka) runs a small cinema in a quiet London suburb, where his wife (Sylvia Sidney) and her teenage brother Stevie (Desmond Tester) live with him. Mrs. Verloc has no idea what her husband does after the last show lets out. Hitchcock adapts Joseph Conrad's novel, and the secret Verloc keeps puts the boy's life in danger.
