“Unmasking the man behind your back!”

In 1942, with the country at war, a fire breaks out at an aircraft factory in California and kills Barry Kane's (Robert Cummings) best friend. Police name Barry as the man who started it, and he runs, crossing the United States on foot and by truck to find the real culprit. Alfred Hitchcock puts Pat Martin (Priscilla Lane) in his path, and she has every reason to hand him over.
