Safe in Hell

“Love had mocked her...Life had marked her...Too honorless to be loved...But too beautiful to be safe in a land of forgotten men!”

Gilda Carlson (Dorothy Mackaill) leaves New Orleans in a hurry, running from the law, and lands on a Caribbean island where the world's worst criminals go because no country can pull them back. The place is meant to be her shelter, but William A. Wellman fills it with men who watch her from the moment she arrives. Carl Bergen (Donald Cook) is the one person who ever stood by her, and the film keeps him just out of reach.
