Major Tanya Degurechaff (Aoi Yuki) commands the Imperial Army's 203rd Air Mage Battalion, and in 1926 she brings them home from the south expecting a vacation. Instead, Staff HQ sends new orders, because enemy forces are gathering near the Federation border. Yutaka Uemura sets Tanya against Warrant Officer Mary Sue, a young volunteer who enlists to answer for her father's death, and the film shows two people arriving at the same war carrying very different reasons.
