Saint Joan

(1957)Directed by Otto Preminger110 minHistory, Drama
“A Brilliant Triumph!”

Joan (Jean Seberg) is seventeen, a peasant girl who believes voices have told her to drive the English out of France and crown the Dauphin at Reims. Otto Preminger opens in 1456, with Charles VII (Richard Widmark) remembering how he first met her, then moves back through that memory to the court and the army she was given. She asks for a command, and every nobleman who hears her has his own reason to fear what she might do with it.
