Sakuran

In the Yoshiwara red-light district, where women are bought and kept behind lacquered doors, a girl named Kiyoha (Anna Tsuchiya) starts at the bottom of the courtesan ranks. Mika Ninagawa fills the screen with saturated reds, goldfish and silk. Kiyoha climbs toward the rank of Oiran, set on standing on her own two feet and living as she pleases.
