Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom
“The final vision of a controversial filmmaker.”
In the last days of Mussolini's regime, four powerful men, the Duke (Paolo Bonacelli), the Bishop, the Magistrate and the President, gather nine teenage boys and girls and shut them inside a villa for 120 days. Pasolini adapts the Marquis de Sade's novel and sets it in wartime Italy, which was his last film. Its subject is plain: what happens when absolute power answers to no one.
