“Don't mix with "Sam Whiskey" - It's risky!”

A widow hires Sam Whiskey (Burt Reynolds), a gambler gone broke, to haul gold bars out of a sunken river boat in Colorado. The bars were stolen from the Federal Mint by her late husband, and she wants them slipped back unnoticed. Arnold Laven sends Sam out with Laura Breckenridge (Angie Dickinson) and a few hired hands, and Sam takes the job like a man who has run out of better bets.
