Same Time, Next Year

“They couldn't have celebrated happier anniversaries if they were married to each other.”

George Peters (Alan Alda) and Doris (Ellen Burstyn) both want to keep the lives they already have, each married to someone else. After one dinner at a romantic inn they wake up in the same bed, unsure how it happened, and agree to meet again the same weekend next year in the same room. Robert Mulligan follows them back through the years, and every visit puts a marriage, and what they have built, in danger.
