“... Amazing Drama of Desperate Men Behind the Walls!”

Captain Stephen Jameson (Pat O'Brien), an ex-Army officer, takes a guard's job at San Quentin because he wants to run the place fairly, keeping first-time offenders apart from the hardened ones. Then May's brother Joe 'Red' Kennedy (Humphrey Bogart) arrives to serve time for robbery, and a convict named Hansen sets about turning him against the man dating his sister. Lloyd Bacon shot it on location at the real San Quentin State Prison.
