Sanshiro Sugata, Part Two

Sanshiro Sugata (Susumu Fujita), a few years past his first victory, is still a student of judo under his teacher Shogoro Yano (Denjirō Ōkōchi). He tests himself against an American prizefighter, then against the Higaki brothers, who come after him with karate and a grudge. Kurosawa made the film in 1945, and the fights keep pulling Sanshiro toward the violence his teacher warned him about, with the whole meaning of his art at risk.
