Sapphire

(1959)Directed by Basil Dearden92 minMystery, Crime, Thriller
“The sensational story of a girl who didn't belong.”

A young woman is found dead, and the people who knew her describe someone none of them seem to have known. She was of mixed race and had been living as white. Superintendent Robert Hazard (Nigel Patrick) and Inspector Phil Learoyd (Michael Craig) question her boyfriend, his disapproving parents and a string of others, and Basil Dearden keeps the interviews close. Every answer exposes a prejudice, and the detectives have to get through it to find who killed her.
