Savage Messiah

(1972)Directed by Ken Russell103 min · RDrama
“Every man has a dream that must be realised... a love that must come true... a life that must not stop.”

In Paris in the 1910s, Henri Gaudier (Scott Antony), a brash young sculptor, takes up with Sophie Brzeska (Dorothy Tutin), a writer twenty years older who gives his raw work some polish. Ken Russell follows the pair to London, where Henri falls in with a circle of avant-garde artists and meets the suffragette Gosh Boyle (Helen Mirren). Henri's work depends on the women who sit beside him, and the film gives them as much weight as the sculptor.
