Saving Mr. Banks

“Where her book ended, their story began.”

In 1961, P.L. Travers (Emma Thompson) flies from London to Los Angeles for two weeks with Walt Disney (Tom Hanks), who has been chasing the film rights to her Mary Poppins books for twenty years. John Lee Hancock sets her stiff afternoons in the studio against her childhood in rural Queensland in 1906, where her father (Colin Farrell) loved her and could not be relied on. The books were never only about a nanny; they were her way of holding on to her father.
