“Never have the beauties of Italy been so magnificently revealed!”

In 1955 Sorrento, the former marshal Carotenuto (Vittorio De Sica) comes home to find his house taken over by Donna Sofia (Sophia Loren), a young fishwife who has settled in as if it were hers. Dino Risi shoots the town in color for the first time in this series, the third after Bread, Love and Dreams and Bread, Love and Jealousy. Carotenuto wants his house, his quiet and his dignity back, and the whole town is watching to see whether he gets them.
