Scarred Hearts

“a free adaptation of the literary works of M. Blecher”

Emanuel (Lucian Teodor Rus), a young writer, wants to be cured of the bone tuberculosis that sends him to a Black Sea sanatorium in the summer of 1937. The treatment is painful: spine punctures, then long weeks in a plaster cast on a stretcher-bed. Radu Jude follows him through the wards, where Emanuel lies fixed on his back while life carries on around the bed.
