School for Scoundrels

(1960)Directed by Robert Hamer94 minComedy
“Learn to gain weight by LOSING scruples!”

Henry Palfrey (Ian Carmichael) is a man everyone talks over: his chief clerk patronises him, waiters pass him by, and a used-car salesman fleeces him. Then Raymond Delauney (Terry-Thomas), a thoroughgoing cad, starts courting April (Janette Scott), and Henry enrolls at S. Potter's (Alastair Sim) College of Lifemanship. Robert Hamer's comedy is built on the idea that good manners are a handicap and that the polite can be taught, with effort, to get their own back.
