“He just landed the gig of his life: 5th grade.”

The kids at Horace Green Prep are straight-A fifth graders, and one day a stranger shows up in their classroom claiming to be their substitute teacher, though he plainly knows nothing about teaching. He is Dewey Finn (Jack Black), a guitarist just fired from his band, who took the job to cover his rent and has no plan beyond that. Linklater films the class with a loose, patient handheld ease, letting the kids and Black find their rhythm together.
