“The perfect man. The perfect story. The perfect murder.”

A dead reporter, Joe Strombel (Ian McShane), slips out of the afterlife with a tip about a London aristocrat who might be the Tarot Card Killer. He delivers it to Sondra Pransky (Scarlett Johansson), an American journalism student, in the middle of a magician's act run by Sid Waterman (Woody Allen). Woody Allen sends the unlikely pair after Peter Lyman (Hugh Jackman), and Sondra gets close enough to fall for the man she is investigating.
