Ebenezer Scrooge (Alastair Sim) is a cruel, miserly businessman who shuffles through his days alone and keeps his clerk Bob Cratchit (Mervyn Johns) working for next to nothing. On Christmas Eve, three spirits arrive to show him his unhappy childhood and what his behavior has made of him. Brian Desmond Hurst sends him through one long night, and what hangs on it is whether a lonely old man gets any chance to change before morning.
