Seabiscuit

“The hopes of a nation rode on a long shot.”

Nobody can say why a small, knobby-kneed Thoroughbred that other trainers had written off would become the most talked-about animal in Depression-era America. Gary Ross follows three men who each take a chance on him: the wealthy Charles Howard (Jeff Bridges), the quiet horseman Tom Smith (Chris Cooper), and the jockey Red Pollard (Tobey Maguire). Their winning streak reaches people with no money and little to hope for, and the film shows them cheering together.
