Arthur Hamilton (John Randolph) is a middle-aged banker in New York, with a house in the suburbs, a wife he barely speaks to, and a phone call from a dead friend that he cannot explain. The call leads him to The Company, which offers to fake his death and give him a new face, a new name, and a life in Malibu. John Frankenheimer follows him into the new body of Antiochus "Tony" Wilson (Rock Hudson), where Arthur tries to learn how to want things again.
