“Dead Women Tell No Tales Was The Motto of This Charming Lady Killer!”

Richard Ashenden (John Gielgud) is a novelist the newspapers have already declared dead, and British intelligence gives him a new name, Edgar Brodie, and a job in Switzerland. He is sent to kill a German spy, with Elsa Carrington (Madeleine Carroll) posing as his wife and Peter Lorre's eccentric General at his side. Hitchcock sends them out together, and Brodie, a man who writes about war, begins to wonder what it costs him to carry out the order.
