Seduced and Abandoned

In a small Sicilian town, Agnese Ascalone (Stefania Sandrelli) tells a priest what happened between her and Peppino Califano (Aldo Puglisi), her sister Matilde's fiancé, and her parents find out. Her father, Don Vincenzo (Saro Urzì), cares less about her than about what the neighbors will say. Pietro Germi turns Sicily's laws on honor into a comedy, then lets the family's cold practicality sit awkwardly beside it.
