Selah and the Spades

“Private school, hard knocks.”

At Haldwell, an esteemed prep school, the senior class is split into factions that run everything from the parties to the daily pecking order. Paloma Davis (Celeste O'Connor) arrives as the new girl and is pulled into the Spades, led by the cheerleader Selah Summers (Lovie Simone). Tayarisha Poe's debut treats power among teenagers as a thing to be built and guarded, and it shows what holding it asks of a person who is still a kid.
