Sense and Sensibility

(1995)Directed by Ang Lee136 min · PGDrama, Romance
“Lose your heart and come to your senses.”

When Henry Dashwood dies, the law hands his estate to his son and leaves his widow (Gemma Jones) and three daughters with a small income and nowhere to live. Elinor (Emma Thompson) keeps her feelings to herself while Marianne (Kate Winslet) lets hers show, and Ang Lee watches both of them look for love in a society that counts money first. The two sisters could hardly be less alike, yet each is the only person who really sees the other.
