“Can once in a lifetime happen twice?”

Jonathan Trager (John Cusack) is engaged to someone else when he meets Sara Thomas (Kate Beckinsale), who is also spoken for, and the two feel a connection neither of them planned. They part ways soon after, leaving the rest to chance. Peter Chelsom picks the story up years later, with both of them still thinking about each other and one wedding date drawing closer for each.
