Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors

Ivan Paliychuk (Ivan Mykolaichuk) grows up in the Carpathian Mountains among the Hutsul people, and he falls for Marichka Gutenyuk (Larysa Kadochnykova), the daughter of the man who killed his father. Sergei Parajanov sets their love inside a 19th-century village where feuds, funerals and old customs carry on as they always have. Ivan walks through it with that grief at his back, wanting a girl his family's blood has already put out of reach.
