Shaft

“The mob wanted Harlem back. They got Shaft...up to here.”

John Shaft (Richard Roundtree) is a Black private eye in New York who answers to nobody, and works the street like he owns the block. Harlem crime lord Bumpy Jonas (Moses Gunn) hires him to find his kidnapped daughter, and Gordon Parks follows the search through Harlem and the rest of the city. Shaft has a stretch of days to bring her back, with Italian mobsters holding her and the police pressing on him.
