Will Shakespeare (Joseph Fiennes) has a deadline, a theater owner (Geoffrey Rush) who needs a play, and no pages. What he has is the title, "Romeo and Ethel, the Pirate's Daughter," and a comedy that won't come. Then Viola De Lesseps (Gwyneth Paltrow), a noblewoman, auditions for a part, and John Madden follows the two of them into a love the play slowly begins to borrow.
