“Foot-free Fred and joyous Ginger...in their gayest, gladdest show!”

Petrov (Fred Astaire), a ballet star, has fallen for the dancer Linda Keene (Ginger Rogers) after barely meeting her, so he books passage on her ocean liner to New York. Mark Sandrich directs, and by the time the ship docks, a small white lie has been through the gossip mill and come out as a rumor that the two are secretly married. George and Ira Gershwin wrote the songs, and the film keeps asking what two people owe a story the public already believes.
