Shame

“A compelling and timely examination of the nature of need, how we live our lives and the experiences that shape us.”

Brandon (Michael Fassbender) lives alone in a New York apartment and spends his days keeping women at arm's length while feeding a compulsion he can't stop. Then his younger sister Sissy (Carey Mulligan) moves in without warning, bringing an unwelcome reminder of the painful past they share. Steve McQueen builds the film around the two of them in that small space, each wanting the other's patience and neither able to ask for it.
