“Your hairdresser does it better.”

It's Election Day, 1968, in Los Angeles, and George Roundy (Warren Beatty), a hairdresser with a chair full of clients and a mistress to keep happy, has no time to think about the vote. Felicia Karpf (Lee Grant) is the mistress, her husband Lester (Jack Warden) is seeing Jackie Shawn (Julie Christie), and George's girlfriend Jill (Goldie Hawn) is waiting on him too. Hal Ashby shoots the day in a flat, grainy light that keeps the money and the sex looking worn.
