Shanghai Express

“Many Men Had Loved Her -- but only one had been loved in return!”

In 1932, a train leaves Peking for Shanghai while civil war rages across China, its first-class carriages full of strangers. Among them are Shanghai Lily (Marlene Dietrich), a woman with a reputation she can't shake, and Captain Donald Harvey (Clive Brook), a British army doctor who once loved her. Josef von Sternberg crowds the compartments with steam and shadow, and the two keep a careful distance, each still waiting on what the other will say.
