Shanghai Triad

Shanghai, 1930. Shuisheng, a boy fresh from the countryside, is placed by his uncle Liushu in the service of Bijou (Gong Li), the mistress of Tang Laoda (Li Baotian), boss of the Tang Triad. Laoda's enemies are all around him, the ones he knows by name and the ones he doesn't. Zhang Yimou frames the Triad's nightclubs and back rooms in saturated color, so the world of the gang looks as lavish as it is dangerous.
