Shaolin

(2011)Directed by Benny Chan Muk-sing131 min · RAction, Drama
“In a land torn by strife, the righteous monks of Shaolin stand as a beacon of hope for the oppressed masses.”

A temple that has stood for centuries keeps its gates open to whoever comes through them, even a warlord who once mocked its masters. Hou Chieh (Andy Lau) arrives in early 20th-century China with his army gone, his family dead, and nowhere else to turn, and the monks, led by Wudao (Jackie Chan), take him in. Benny Chan builds the film on one plain idea: mercy is offered before it is earned.
