Wai Fung (David Chiang Da-Wei) is a scholar the Manchu Emperor sends to infiltrate a clan of Ming Loyalists, with his own family held as the price of failure. Inside the clan's household he meets Tien Gi-Gi (Cecilia Wong), the leader's granddaughter, and the assignment starts to pull against what he feels. Lau Kar-leung builds the fights around a scholar's hands, and Wai Fung stands there with his family's lives resting on him.
